Un estudio de Noruega y Estados Unidos prob\u00f3 distintas formas de disminuir la partidura. Su principal conclusi\u00f3n es que cubrir la fruta ayuda, pero no resuelve todo si el riego no est\u00e1 bien manejado.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Todo productor de cerezas sabe lo que es ver la fruta partida despu\u00e9s de una lluvia. Es una de las mayores causas de p\u00e9rdida en el mundo, y un grupo de investigadores de Bioforsk<\/strong> (Noruega) y de Oregon State University<\/strong> (Estados Unidos) quiso saber qu\u00e9 tan bien funcionan las herramientas que hoy se usan para evitarla. El trabajo, liderado por Mekjell Meland<\/strong> junto a Clive Kaiser<\/strong> and John Mark Christensen<\/strong>, se public\u00f3 en AgroLife Scientific Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cobertores para que la lluvia no toque la fruta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El equipo prob\u00f3 dos sistemas. El primero fue un techo de cortinas de polietileno que se corren sobre tres alambres a lo largo de cada hilera. Funciona, pero hay que cerrarlo a mano antes de cada lluvia, lo que exige mucha mano de obra, se complica con el viento y el alto costo que implica este sistema. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

El segundo fue un t\u00fanel de acero cubierto con polietileno, por donde puede pasar el tractor. Se ventila por completo los d\u00edas c\u00e1lidos y h\u00famedos, se puede cerrar para adelantar la temporada y el pl\u00e1stico se retira en invierno. Adem\u00e1s, se puede dejar puesto desde floraci\u00f3n hasta cosecha, o solo en el per\u00edodo en que la fruta es m\u00e1s sensible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La parte que muchos pasan por alto<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El hallazgo m\u00e1s importante es que la fruta tambi\u00e9n se parte bajo cubierta y con la superficie seca. La raz\u00f3n: si el \u00e1rbol recibe agua de golpe, la cereza crece de volumen m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido de lo que su epidermis alcanza a expandirse, y se forman peque\u00f1as fracturas. Esas fracturas, adem\u00e1s, son la puerta de entrada de pudriciones en postcosecha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por eso, los autores advierten que un exceso de humedad en el suelo puede provocar partidura incluso dentro de los t\u00faneles, y que hay que monitorear la humedad del suelo de cerca. Recuerdan que en el Noroeste del Pac\u00edfico de Estados Unidos se ha visto fruta partida a\u00fan sin lluvia en las tres semanas previas a la cosecha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un \u201cimpermeable\u201d para la cereza<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El estudio tambi\u00e9n evalu\u00f3 Parka, un recubrimiento el\u00e1stico, una mezcla de fosfol\u00edpido y una matriz de celulosa, desarrollado en Oregon State University. Su ventaja frente a los productos a base de cera de carnauba, que deben reaplicarse hasta cinco veces, es que solo necesita dos aplicaciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el ensayo de Noruega, la partidura del testigo fue de 24,6%. Con dos aplicaciones del biofilm baj\u00f3 a 17%, y combinado con fungicida y cubierta pl\u00e1stica en el suelo lleg\u00f3 a 9,8%. La fruta tratada tambi\u00e9n tuvo m\u00e1s az\u00facar, entre 20,4 y 21,4 \u00b0Brix frente a 18,6 del testigo. En Estados Unidos, el producto redujo la partidura a la mitad en promedio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eso s\u00ed, ni los t\u00faneles ni el biofilm lo resuelven todo. Cuando llueve de forma extrema y la partidura natural supera el 50%, su eficacia cae, y otra vez el agua que absorbe el \u00e1rbol desde el suelo vuelve a ser protagonista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La conclusi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evitar que el agua moje la fruta es clave, pero el manejo del agua del suelo pesa igual, tanto a campo abierto como bajo cobertura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
