La principal enfermedad del cerezo en Chile acaba de sumar un nuevo cap\u00edtulo de evidencia cient\u00edfica con impacto directo para la fruticultura. INIA logr\u00f3 publicar en la revista Plants un estudio clave sobre c\u00e1ncer bacterial del cerezo, una patolog\u00eda que puede generar p\u00e9rdidas productivas de hasta un 20% y que, temporada tras temporada, se mantiene como un dolor de cabeza por su complejidad de control.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El trabajo se enfoc\u00f3 en caracterizar muestras del pat\u00f3geno responsable,\u00a0Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, recolectadas en huertos de las principales zonas productoras del pa\u00eds. El hallazgo central apunta a un cambio de mirada: la enfermedad no puede entenderse \u00fanicamente como la consecuencia de una introducci\u00f3n externa, sino como el resultado de poblaciones bacterianas que, con el tiempo, se han ido ajustando a la realidad agroclim\u00e1tica y a las pr\u00e1cticas de manejo de la fruticultura chilena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esa capacidad adaptativa, plantea el estudio, es una de las razones que explican porqu\u00e9 el c\u00e1ncer bacterial se ha vuelto persistente y dif\u00edcil de erradicar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La investigaci\u00f3n fue liderada por el Dr. Boris Sagredo, investigador de INIA Rayentu\u00e9, quien subraya que el valor del avance no se agota en el reconocimiento acad\u00e9mico. La publicaci\u00f3n, sostiene, permite comprender mejor c\u00f3mo est\u00e1n compuestas las poblaciones de la bacteria en Chile y, desde ah\u00ed, dise\u00f1ar estrategias de manejo m\u00e1s efectivas y alineadas con la producci\u00f3n real de los huertos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00e1s all\u00e1 del diagn\u00f3stico, el estudio instala una consecuencia pr\u00e1ctica: si el pat\u00f3geno evoluciona y se adapta, tambi\u00e9n deben evolucionar las estrategias de monitoreo y control. En ese sentido, el conocimiento generado aporta base para fortalecer sistemas de detecci\u00f3n y vigilancia, apoyar decisiones sobre material vegetal con mayor tolerancia y optimizar programas de manejo en campo, con una mirada de resiliencia productiva y sostenibilidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El trabajo se enmarca en una l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n sostenida desde 2017, iniciada con apoyo del Gobierno Regional de O\u2019Higgins y luego respaldada por ANID mediante el proyecto Fondecyt Regular N\u00b01231208.
