This week, a new maritime route to import cherries directly from Chile was launched in the port of Tianjin, in northern China. The milestone was inaugurated with the first voyage of a ship on the route, which carried more than 2,000 tons of fresh cherries, arriving at its destination on January 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Cerezas<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

According to Xinhua news agency, this is the first time that a direct route has been offered for the export of cherries from Latin America to the northern region of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two more ships are expected to begin their journey during the week, carrying more than 5,800 tons of cherries and other seasonal produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new route will allow the fruit to reach the wholesale markets in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei first, leaving behind the routes previously used for the sale of cherries in the north, which involved the arrival of the production through ports located in the south, to then be transported by land or air. According to local traders, thanks to this new logistics there could even be a reduction of between 50 and 50 percent in the total price of cherries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
