{"id":17220,"date":"2022-10-25T13:24:55","date_gmt":"2022-10-25T16:24:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/?p=17220"},"modified":"2022-10-25T14:58:51","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T17:58:51","slug":"conociendo-mas-sobre-el-cancer-bacterial-del-cerezo-pseudomona-syringae-pv-syringae-van-hall-parte-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/en\/planificacion-tareas\/monitoreo-de-plagas-y-enfermedades\/conociendo-mas-sobre-el-cancer-bacterial-del-cerezo-pseudomona-syringae-pv-syringae-van-hall-parte-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning more about bacterial canker of cherry, Pseudomona syringae pv. syringae van Hall (Part II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By: Southern Fruit Growing Center.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is known that the most relevant phytosanitary problem in cherry plantations is the&nbsp;<strong>bacterial cancer<\/strong>&nbsp;whose predominant causal agent is the epiphytic bacteria&nbsp;<em><strong>Pseudomonas syringae<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/em>This disease can cause the death of younger plants and a significant reduction in production in adult plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the wood of the trunk, branches and twigs, the distinctive symptom known as canker and the amber-colored gummy exudation are; the infection can affect parenchyma and vascular bundles, showing brown discoloration and a characteristic acidic odor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"915\" height=\"249\" src=\"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.19.24.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.19.24.png 915w, https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.19.24-300x82.png 300w, https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.19.24-768x209.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 915px) 100vw, 915px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Predisposing factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The disease is<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>more prevalent (incidence and intensity) in localities where cold and humid springs predominate<\/strong>, associated with strong winds, frequent drizzle and prolonged dew, common conditions in southern Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also&nbsp;<strong>Micro wounds caused by environmental factors or inappropriate driving practices promote infection<\/strong>Particularly incidental are pruning cuts especially in winter, and mechanical damage to the plant bark in young plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When establishing a plantation, it is important to carefully evaluate the site-specific conditions that favor the pathogenesis of this disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Options for Integrated Management of Cherry Bacterial Cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To maintain the orchard with a minimum level of bacterial cancer, it is necessary to be aware of the seriousness of the disease, systematically apply a&nbsp;<strong>Integrated preventive management plan,<\/strong>&nbsp;and rigorous supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a brief systematization of actions to be considered in cherry plantations, to reduce the prevalence of this disease:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Make sure the plants are healthy and come from a quality nursery with SAG registration.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Personally select the plants in the nursery, with knowledge of the symptoms of the disease. Verify that the nursery&#039;s phytosanitary management is rigorous and professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Move the plants to the garden carefully and hygienically.<\/strong>&nbsp;Leave the plants in a clean place before planting.&nbsp;<strong>Plant as soon as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Select planting land with the lowest risk of frost and least exposure to wind.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maintain, in the first years, the planting area free of weeds around the trunk<\/strong>, since the bacteria can survive epiphytically and infect young plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Paint the base of the trunk with latex and bactericide<\/strong>&nbsp;based on particulate copper or Bordeaux mixture plus an adhesive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Prune in spring summer<\/strong>, on days of lower humidity and free water.&nbsp;<strong>Cover pruning cuts<\/strong>&nbsp;immediately after application with bactericidal pruning paste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Remove all branches and twigs with obvious or apparent symptoms of bacterial canker<\/strong>. Sanitation pruning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>-Avoid, as much as possible, incisions and cuts in the trees, especially in the first three years<\/strong>&nbsp;of planted; denoting that inadequate orthophytia causes micro wounds through which the bacteria penetrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Another aspect that favors the development of the disease is the excessive vigor of the trees, being recommended&nbsp;<strong>Avoid excess and late application of Nitrogen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"271\" src=\"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.21.03.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.21.03.png 840w, https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.21.03-300x97.png 300w, https:\/\/smartcherry.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Captura-de-pantalla-2022-10-25-a-las-13.21.03-768x248.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><figcaption><strong>1. Chemical control<\/strong><br>It is recommended&nbsp;<strong>Periodic applications of copper bactericides<\/strong>&nbsp;(Bordeaux mixture, cuprous oxide, copper oxychloride, copper pentahydrate, copper hydroxide, copper gluconate) in leaf fall and budding. It is advisable&nbsp;<strong>Add an adjuvant to the bactericidal mixture<\/strong>&nbsp;that improves the adhesion and penetration of the active ingredient.<br>&nbsp;<br><strong>2. Biological control<\/strong><br>It is convenient to include in the control scheme&nbsp;<em>P. syringae<\/em>, he&nbsp;<strong>use of commercial products based on assets such as&nbsp;<em>Bacillus&nbsp;<\/em>spp and&nbsp;<em>Trichoderma<\/em>&nbsp;spp.&nbsp;<\/strong>It is also recommended to apply bactericidal products or foliar nutrients that&nbsp;<strong>stimulate plant defense mechanisms<\/strong>.<br>It is very important&nbsp;<strong>disinfect the surface of plants<\/strong>&nbsp;with hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite, prior to actions such as pruning and other handling that involves wounds to the plant tissue.<br>&nbsp;<br><strong>3.
